pad. >>> there was an attempted kidnapping outside of a bar in aurora, colorado, and it was caught on tape. this video comes to us from "the denver channel." you won't believe what happened to this woman. she's leaving this bar call pitchers. it's around 11:00 at night. up comes this white car where she says the driver asked her for directions to colorado springs. if you notice, there's a man getting out of the passenger side of the car. the woman says the man put a towel with some kind of chemical over her head. she knocked him down, and she runs inside back into the bar while the man jumps into the car and they get away. this happened in aurora. it has striking similarities to another case that happened on memorial day just 20 minutes away in the town of westminster where a woman says a man with similar build, similar looks tried to abduct her on a path with a towel. she got away as well. >> any word on whether those two attempts were connected? >> well, aurora police say it could be a copy cat, but here's the thing. westminster police say any information anybody has is important because westminster police beli

declared a health hazard. it's one of the more unusual situations that the city of aurora has ever had to deal with almost 400 birds dead and alive or removed from home the cleanup is far from over. contractors hired by the city of aurora worked for seven hours today catching the birds and putting them into cages. by 2:00 p.m. they had rescued about 150 birds and by 5:00 p.m., all 325 birds were out workers say there were about 60 dead birds inside the home. this is a grave situation to find ourselves in the owner of the home david was here at the start today but then chose to leave well workers removed his birds the first and second floors were cleared first the biggest challenge was the lowest level of a home you mentioned that the basin was the most difficult area, why was that? >> just because it's an unfinished basements, it's open. the birds were in the holes in dry walls. a spokesperson says that she is optimistic they will be able to find homes for many of the birds. they look remarkably well, i just came from the shelter in villa park, we currently have approximately 60 bird

. >>a hazmat team in aurora is having a tough time getting into the home of a suspected hoarder apparently the garbage is piled too high. the home is suspected of housing animals and dead birds. wgn's judy wang is live in aurora with details. judy >> the animal control officers went inside the home. maybe about 15-20 minutes ago. we have not seen them bring any animals to the fan. this is the 200 block of shady brook lane. firefighters could not get in. we do not have a clear picture of the situation. it appears there are about 200 birds inside the house. mostly parents and parakeets. >> they reported seeing birds many of them dead. police obtained a court order which allow them to go inside the house. we do not know how long he has lived in his residence. police are not naming him at this time. the man apparently was very up front with officers about what they might find. the only animals i have heard mentioned so far are birds. a lot of times people would walk behind the house and could see the bird flying freely through the window. animal control that the dollar had to go
focusing on the forest preserves near her home. a house in aurora declared on fit for humans after piles of garbage in hundreds of birds alive and dead are found inside. good evening the owner of the home has not been identified because so far no criminal charges have been filed at this point he is looking at several code violations in the city of aurora there is a serious mess inside and they will not be able to clean up until tuesday next week. after obtaining a search warrant, a hazmat team entered the home around 1015 this morning or police and fire personnel were also on the scene finding hundreds of birds inside, dead and alive. the floors and walls were covered with bird droppings and garbage. the home was actually so full of junk and trash that it actually impedes any efforts to effectively remove the birds so it's a very challenging situation and there air samples had to be taken from inside the home to determine what kind of protection the cleanup crews will need before they could even enter the home they will have to specialize in animal cleanup. we need to know exactly what
, july 20th s, the gunmen in the theater in aurora. he killed 12 people and injured 58 at the midnight showing at the premiere of batman. there was a discussion in the days after that about what can the nation and colorado do as far as the gun laws. we on the editorial board at "denver post," we supported reauthorization of the weapons ban and we support the elimination of the high-capacity magazines that people use for those guns. there's a point made here by the democratic gov. which is that gun-control laws will not stop someone who has an ill intent from acting on it. it's a difficult position for democrats, particularly in the west where second amendment rights are held tightly by voters across the spectrum. democrats have learned in colorado across several election cycles that running on gun control is not a winning proposition for them. we saw several pieces of legislation passed in colorado after the columbine massacre, but since that time politicians, especially on the left, have been loath to take part of the issue. republic host: in color from st. augustine, fla. -- republic
